snaps for the crew

T minus 10 days till the MCAT. Im officially freaking out of my mind.

So as you all know, Im working at a lab at the university this summer, and as you also know, I am writing the MCAT this summer. In 10 days. Overall my lab working experience has been pretty postive; the people I work with are really nice and relaxed, and everyone gets along real well. Ive even had the opportunity to befriend some other summer students who dont work in my lab, but work with my friends and friends of friends and so forth. These people are also really nice and fun to hang out with. The only thing is, every single person (in my age group) that Ive met this year has either gotten into med or is planning on getting into med. Every. Single. One.

Its driving me insane.

Every person I meet is more intelligent and more impressive than the last. And for a person who's past year has intstilled some serious doubt in her capabililty of getting into med school, this is not very encouraging. Pretty much every single day there is conversation to be heard about GPAs, extracurricular activities, volunteer experience, reference letters, admission requirements, interviews, who got in, who didnt get in, living arrangements for those lucky ones who got in, and of course, the good ol MCAT...which is in 10 days. Let me clarify something. This is not fun for me. Why do I keep getting involved in these conversations? Because I cant not.

This is where the purpose of this post comes in. Meeting these new med school hopefulls has been fun dont get me wrong...they're a great group of people. But spending time with these people has really made me appreciate my friends. We truly get an A+ for diversity here. I mean, not only do we look like a United Colors of Benneton billboard, but we are so diverse in our life goals. We got some future pharmacists, lawyers, teachers, engineers, business managers/owners, probably some psychologists, poli-scientists (?), and hopefully, doctors. I mean, we could rule the word. I really cant explain to you how unbelievably super this is. One of my really close friends from junior high has a big group of friends from her highschool, and seriously about 90% of them are trying for med. I am so happy that I have friends who can genuinely be happy for each other when they succeed (without that pang of jealousy that they're "beating you") and who can genuinely empathize and be there for each other when they fail (without the guilt-ridden hint of relief that you may be in the lead). No ones competing. Its awesome.

So with that being said, Im sending a big e-hug to all y'all. As you can see this time of stress had made me a tad emotional.

Send me your smart vibes! you guys dont need them now anyways! Did I mention the MCAT is in 10 days?

Manik, you are great and don't let some momma's boy/girl make you doubt it. Good luck on the MCAT!
