me and the city

Back to the ho-hum, hum-drum, mind-numbingly boring drudgery of edmonton. Ok edmonton is really not that bad, but compared to boston and new york, it pales in comparison at most.

So as you already know, last week I went to Boston to visit my two cuzes who are in pursuit of higher education. One is already a doctor who for some strange reason I cant comprehend, cant get enough o-the-books so decided to go to Harvard for a year to get her masters. The second is in the process of finishing his first year of dentistry at Tufts, a lesser known yet crazy awesome med/dent school. Ive got a lot to live up to.

Boston is wikid awesome. It is such a beautiful city!! We walked absolutely everywhere (so Manik got some exercize! shocker I know) and the atmosphere is just so....cool. Cambridge is a gorgeous campus. I could definately see myself living there...though the candy selection in the states is a bit lacking (no smarties, no coffee crisp, and some really disgusting version of Kit Kat in a orange(?!?!) wrapper)

So after galavanting around boston for a couple of days we headed off to New York for a whirlwind of a weekend. Let me just say, I have been waiting to go to new york my entire life, it is my mecca, and holy smoley did it ever deliver. New York was like a dream. It is just....wow.

New York Day 1:
We took a bus (the Fung Wah bus... famous for its $15 fare and...interesting smell) which dropped us off literally in the middle of a random street in china town. China town is sheer madness. Ed I coulda used your expertise. Once we found a subway station though it was smooth sailing ( I was "on the 6" more than JLo!). We saw wall street, very cool, took a ride on the staten island ferry to visit lady liberty (from quite a distance), rushed over to the met 15 mins before closing (still absolutely gorgeous), walked (uphill :p ) across central park, stood two hours in line to go up the empire state builiding (my god I thought I was in line for the dumbo ride at disneylandand; and when we finally got to the top it was already dark and although it still was breathtaking I couldnt take any pictures!!!) and then...ahhh...times square. Honestly, each and every one of you has to see times square at night. It is absolutely incredible. It was also fleet week so sailors were everywhere, and just the whole experience....man there are no words. It was everything I coudve expected and more. Pure sensory overload. Especially after the crazy day I had zooming from place to place with hardly any time to really enjoy it and take it all in, finishing the night off with a stroll through times square was just unbelievable. It was seriously an insane day. Day 2 was less insane, but still quite eventful.

New York Day 2:
Naturally, since all four of us (my cousins and I) were raised in front of the television, we could not leave the backdrop of some of the most amazing shows and movies without seeingat least one famous site. And what better site is there to visit than the ever popular Seinfeld restaurant? The answer is nothing. So the night before we left for new york we did our research, found the address to Tom's Restaurant and the morning of our second day in the city took the subway all the way to brooklyn, a 45 min subway ride. After going all this way....thats right....we went to the wrong restaurant. It was some tiny little place on the corner of a random street!! The food was still good though. So after that blunder we went back to manhattan and strolled around to Rockafellar center, saw Radio city music hall, the NBC studio, 5th avenue (didnt go into any stores though cuz it would have made me too depressed) and Madame Tousseau's Wax museum. Now that was cool. They look just like the real people!!! Completely to scale and everything. And yes, Brad Pitt really IS that hot, and JLo's butt really IS that big. Then to finish off the trip we walked through SoHo shopping district. We only had about an hour, so I didnt get much of a chance to shop (to everyones amazement I know)

So that was my trip. It went by so crazy fast! I miss it! I miss walking everwhere among the huge sky scrapers of manhattan and the beautiful brownstones of Boston (hows that for alliteration?). I would go back in a heartbeat. Ah well, back to whitemud for me.
